A big thank you to Arm!
This week, we received the fantastic news that Arm is gifting an incredible £9,500 to our donation program! This will enable us to distribute more BBC micro:bits to young people who might otherwise find it difficult to buy one themselves.
Typically, we fund our program with royalties from the sale of the micro:bit, but since we aim to keep prices low for everyone, donations like this give us a great opportunity to extend our efforts and reach even more young people around the world.
"As a tech company that relies on creative minds and fresh thinking, Arm is keen to invest in the next generation of digital pioneers. The micro:bit was specially designed to stimulate children’s digital creativity and inspire the engineers of the future, so it makes sense for us to support the work of the Foundation however and wherever we can."
– Ali Stripling, who drives Team Arm, the company’s employee community engagement programme.
Arm is one of the micro:bits founding partners – in fact, the micro:bit itself is based on Arm’s Mbed platform – and Arm volunteers frequently provide support at our events, as well as delivering micro:bit workshops to teachers and students around the world.
"The work we do wouldn’t be possible without the support from our partners, dedicated Foundation team and of course the wider micro:bit community. Our vision is to inspire every child to create their best digital future by enabling children around the world to get creative with technology and invent in their schools, clubs, and at home. We are immensely grateful for the support from Arm which brings us closer to this goal."
– Kavita Kapoor, Chief Operating Officer, Micro:bit Educational Foundation.
